Rocketman

Adam Murray was the choreographer for Rocketman, the biographical musical inspired by the life and music of Elton John, and was one of the first key creatives brought onto the project by director Dexter Fletcher and Paramount Pictures. From the outset, Adam was embedded at the core of the film’s creative development, reflecting a shared belief that movement and choreography were essential narrative drivers rather than decorative elements. Departing from the conventions of the traditional biopic, Rocketman uses heightened movement, music, and visual storytelling to chart Elton John’s journey from child prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music to global superstar; an approach that Adam helped define from the ground up.

Working closely with Dexter Fletcher, the cast, and the wider creative team, Adam’s contribution extended far beyond choreography in the conventional sense. He helped script the musical language of the film itself, choreographing not only dance but also camera movement, stunts, aerial and underwater sequences, and large-scale cinematic set pieces. In close collaboration with producer Giles Martin, Adam also built musical arrangements from scratch, ensuring that movement, music, and performance were seamlessly integrated into a single expressive framework. His work translated Elton John’s inner world, emotion, fantasy, excess, and vulnerability, into bold, character-driven sequences that actively propel the story forward.
